Soil moisture for irrigation pros · by Harmony Analytica

Know what's happening in the root zone.

BLADE™ reads soil moisture at 3 and 6 inches every 15 minutes, so you can see what your watering is actually doing and show clients the proof. No wires, no control system required. Add it to any landscape, with or without an irrigation system.

Push it in, tap it with a magnet, add it in the app. Readings in two minutes.

BLADE soil moisture sensor: purple hexagonal housing above a black blade-shaped probe marked A and B

At a glance

Two depths, no wires, years on a battery.

3 & 6 in Soil moisture at two depths from one probe
15 min Reporting interval, around the clock
Any LoRaWAN gateway, including our BRIDGE with cellular
Years On two lithium cells, asleep between readings

Who it's for

Built for the people who answer for the water.

Landscape contractors

Stop guessing on runtimes. Check every property from your phone before you dispatch a crew.

Irrigation managers

See which zones are over-watering and which are starving, across every site, on one screen.

Property owners

Independent proof that your landscape got the water it was supposed to, logged every 15 minutes.

Built for the field

Built for the field. Not the lab.

Everything about BLADE is designed to be installed by the person who mows the lawn, not by an integrator.

Push in, tap, done

No trenching, no wiring, no buttons, no controller connection. A magnet tap wakes it up.

Two depths, one probe

Sensing at 3 and 6 inches shows whether water reached the roots or stayed near the surface.

Any LoRaWAN gateway

Works with any LoRaWAN gateway, or our BRIDGE gateway with built-in cellular. No site Wi-Fi needed.

Readings every 15 minutes

Data lands in the MODURA app on your phone, with the full history for every sensor.

Three steps. No tools.

From the box to the first reading in two minutes.

  1. 1

    Place it

Push the probe into the root zone where you want to know what is happening. Depth marks A and B on the blade line up with 3 and 6 inches.

  2. 2

    Tap it

Touch the magnet to the housing. The light flashes while the sensor joins the network. No buttons, no seals to break.

  3. 3

    Add it

Open MODURA and enter the six-character KEY from the label. Readings appear within a minute or two.

BLADE · golf tee box install

In the field

A tee box, a cup cutter, two minutes.

Cut a plug, set the sensor, replace the plug. The sensor joins the course network before the turf is back in place.

  • Flush with the surface, mower safe
  • Reports through the course's existing LoRaWAN gateways
  • Same install on greens, approaches and fairways

BLADE · sports turf install

Sports turf

Playability starts below the surface.

Natural turf fields dry unevenly. A sensor at the crown and another at the sideline show where the water actually went.

  • Two depths show whether water reached the roots
  • Compare fields and zones on one screen
  • Dry-down curves set the real watering interval
MODURA chart of soil moisture at 3 and 6 inches over 30 days, with full and refill lines

Insights

Did the water reach the roots?

Lay the controller's valve data over the soil's actual response and the answer is on the chart. The 3-inch line spikes after every run; whether the 6-inch line follows tells you if the roots got any of it. Each sensor learns its own full and refill points from the wetting cycles it sees, and the dry-down between them shows the real watering interval for that spot.

What the chart shows

  • Full and refill points learned per sensor, not set by hand
  • Wetting events dated and counted, rain separated from irrigation
  • Dry-down rate shows how many days a zone can go

The MODURA app

Soil, weather and turf disease on one screen.

BLADE data lands in MODURA alongside evapotranspiration, rain and turf disease models, so a reading is never just a number.

Verification for clients

A record, not a reassurance.

Every wetting event is logged with a date and a depth. When an owner, a board or an insurer asks whether the landscape was watered, the answer is a chart from an independent sensor in the ground, not a controller log that only shows a valve opened.

How it's made

Each one takes about an hour of hands-on work.

Every BLADE is 3D-printed in UV-resistant ASA, assembled, epoxy-potted so it can sit underwater, and sealed with a magnetic on/off switch instead of a button. Each sensor carries its own LoRaWAN keys, never reused. About three quarters of the cost stays domestic.

Questions

BLADE, answered.

Do I need an irrigation system or a controller?

No. BLADE measures the soil on its own and reports over LoRaWAN. It works in a planter, a green roof, a sports field or a lawn with no irrigation at all.

What do I need besides the sensor?

A LoRaWAN gateway in range and the MODURA app. Any LoRaWAN gateway works. If the site has none, our BRIDGE gateway includes cellular, so no site Wi-Fi or Ethernet is required.

How long does the battery last?

Years. Two lithium cells power the sensor, and it sleeps between its 15-minute readings.

Can it be mowed over or left out in winter?

Yes. The housing is UV-resistant ASA, the electronics are potted in epoxy, and there are no buttons or seals to fail. It can sit underwater.

Where do I buy it?

BLADE is sold on its own site, bladesoil.com. Installers get bulk pricing from twelve sensors.
